Your’re not perfect. You don’t even go thru a week without “stumbling into a pothole”, or “getting rained on”. It just don’t happen. Sometime we’re going to have to face an error…and a reprimand …a scolding. Whether from man, or God. When we are faced with it, What will we do? 1.Will we be proud and stubborn, and reject correction? 2. Or will we be humble, and “sorrow in a Godly manner”?
In 2Corinthians 7, the Corinthians chose the right way, and in Paul’s response to them, he shows all of us a great deal of a lesson. Paul rejoices in this, not because they were made sorrowful, and low, but, because the sorrow wrought repentance in them. (Vs.9). Paul states: : You were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing”. Thought Paul strongly reprimanded them in the last letter, he wrote that this sorrow, leading to repentance is one “not to be regretted” ! (Vs.10). He adds, “But the sorrow of the world produces death. When people who don’t have God as their single source of help and strength, and find themselves in a no-win situation, it’s a truly hopeless state, because they can’t use the circumstances to better, and improve their life’s walk. Which leads to this: The Corinthians did have Jesus, and used the negative blemish, as a chance to grow in God. I love the way Paul expresses himself in verses 10-12. So exited, and with love for his brothers and sisters. There’s a list of things that this godly sorrow brought in them. I decide to get the definitions so the meaning could be more amplified: 1. Diligence: Characterized by steady, earnest, and energetic application and effort. …..[of God’s principles!]. 2. Clearing: To free from accusation or blame. [Forgiveness!] also, to certify as trustworthy.3. Indignation: An anger aroused buy something unjust, unworthy, or mean. 4. Zeal: Eager and ardent interest in the pursuit of something. [God, His Way,]. 5. Fear: Profound reverence, esp towards God. 6. Vehement desire: Vehement> marked by great force or energy. 7. Vindication: Justification..>”readiness to see justice done”(NIV).
Note, all these things [qualities] that will be in you; when you take an error, blemish, bump in your life and [with God’s help] turn it around for the better of your life. A good friend and preacher said once, “When you fall, don’t just get up. Pick something up while you’re down there!” What an awesome perspective! I love how my brother put it: “We are to use our mistakes, not as a crutch, to be with us the rest of our lives, but as a ladder to get us higher.” Amen!
All this so speaks to me…..I’m no preacher. Lol. I’m just sharing what God’s been dealin with me, and showin me. I hope its affected your life in a possitive way, getting you closer to Jesus.
